Getting help

Email dhruvchowdhary7@gmail.com and you'll get a person, not a queue. We're a two-person project, so answers usually take a day or two.

Telling us what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead saves a round trip. If it's about a specific event or friend, the day it happened is usually enough for us to find it.

Adding a friend

There's no way to search for people by name, on purpose. You add friends by sharing a link.

Tap + on the friend rail at the top of the calendar, then send the link however you like. Opening it makes you friends both ways at once, so neither of you has to accept anything. If the link opens a web page instead of the app, the other person doesn't have Whensday installed yet, and the page shows them the code to type in once they do.

You can also enter a code by hand from that same + sheet, which is what to do if the link arrives somewhere it can't be tapped.

What your friends can see

Every event you make is one of two things, and you pick which when you create it. Either way it's enforced by the database, not just by the app, so it holds even if a screen has a bug. The privacy policy has the longer version.

• Private events, and everything imported from Google or Apple Calendar, show your friends a block of busy time. No title, no notes, no location.
• Events you mark as visible to friends show the title too.

Connecting a calendar

Settings has a row for Apple Calendar. Connect it and Whensday reads the calendars you tick, showing those times as busy, and writes events you create here back to a calendar called Whensday that it creates for you. Your other calendars are never written to.

You can connect one calendar at a time. Disconnecting removes every event Whensday imported from it. Events you created in Whensday stay, and so do the copies already in your own calendar.

If the app says it can't see your calendars, check iOS Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Calendars, and make sure Whensday has full access. Read-only access isn't enough to write events back.

Notifications

You get an alert when a friend adds, changes, or removes an event they've shared with friends. Private events and anything imported from a calendar never send one, to anyone.

Settings has a Notifications switch. Turning it off stops alerts to that device, and leaves your other devices alone. If the switch has been replaced by a link to iOS Settings, notifications were refused for Whensday at the system level, and that's the only place it can be turned back on.

Deleting your account

Settings, then Delete account. It removes your profile, your events, your friendships, your photo, and any calendar connection, straight away and with no waiting period.

Events already synced to your Google or Apple calendar stay there. Those are copies in your own account, and deleting Whensday shouldn't empty your calendar.

Something's broken

Whensday keeps working offline. Changes you make without a connection are queued and sync when you're back, so a calendar that looks out of date usually catches up on its own once the app has signal.
